Privacy Policy

At Senti-mental, your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the Senti-mental mobile application, website, and related services.
TL;DR
Your entries live on your device, encrypted, and we can't read them. We don't sell data, we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we don't show ads. The only personal information we hold is what you give us directly‚ like your email when you join the waitlist. The rest of this page is the detail behind that promise.

Who we are
Senti-mental is built by Senti-Mental Apps LLC, a company registered in New Jersey, USA. Senti-mental was built by real people to help in a real way. If you have questions around data storage/retention or just want to know more about the project, email hello@senti-mental.app and a human (Guthrie) will reply.

Your data stays on your device
Everything you log in Senti-mental‚ your metrics, events, scores, and notes, is stored only on your device in an encrypted database. The encryption key is held in your device's secure keychain.
We do not have a server that receives your entries. There is no account to create in the current version of the app. We could not read, sell, or hand over your tracking data even if we were asked to, because we never have it.
If you delete the app, your data is deleted with it. (An export feature is planned so you can back up or take your data with you first.)

What we do collect, and why
We collect a small amount of information to keep the product working:
On the website: If you join the waitlist or newsletter, we collect the name and email you give us. We use it to email you about Senti-mental and nothing else. Forms are processed by our website provider. You can unsubscribe at any time, or email hello@senti-mental.app to be removed entirely.
In the app: We collect crash reports - If the app crashes, a technical report (device model, OS version, what the code was doing) is sent to our crash-reporting provider so we can fix the bug. These reports are automatically scrubbed so they never contain the content of your entries. We test for this specifically.
In the app: We also collect usage signals - We count a handful of anonymous events, (for example, that a check-in was started and how long it took to complete) through our analytics provider. These events never include what you wrote or rated. We collect no demographic information. We use these signals only to learn whether the app is fast and pleasant to use.
Payments: Subscriptions are handled by Apple's App Store (and Google Play, when available). We never see your card details. We receive only what the store provides to confirm your subscription is active.

Optional features that use device data
Some features use information from your device to make your insights better. They are optional, and the data is used on your device:
Weather and daylight: The app can use your approximate location to fetch local weather and daylight hours, so they can be correlated with your entries. Your location is used to make the weather request; it is not stored on our systems or used for anything else. It can be approximated based on a zip code alone.
Health data: A future version may optionally connect to Apple Health or other health tracking devices to help pull in sleep or activity data. If you enable them, that data is read into the app on your device and treated exactly like your entries: stored locally, encrypted, never sent to us.

Sharing you control
Senti-mental is built around the idea that you can choose to share a read-only view of your data with someone you trust‚ like a partner, a loved one, or a therapist. Sharing only ever happens when you initiate it, you'll be clearly prompted each time, and whoever you share with can view, not edit. Nobody gets access to your data unless you give it to them.

What we will never do
- We will never sell your data, to anyone, for any reason.
- We will never share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We will never show you ads.
- We will never use the content of your entries for marketing.
- We will never share your data with researchers or other third parties.
If we ever build an optional way to contribute to mental-health research, or to build benchmarking data or a recommendation engine, it would be strictly opt-in, explained in plain language‚ and saying no would change nothing about your experience.

Your rights
Your tracking data is on your device and you can delete it at any time by deleting the app.
Your email can be removed, unsubscribe from any email, or write to hello@senti-mental.app to have your information corrected or deleted from our lists.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA), you may have additional legal rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Email hello@senti-mental.app and we will honor those requests.

Age policy
Senti-mental is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us their information, contact hello@senti-mental.app and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the update here with a new date, and if a change is material we'll tell you directly (by email if we have it, or in the app). We will never retroactively weaken the promises in section 6.
